SUNSHINE ON SCOTLAND

Just as the Edinburgh duo The Proclaimers (Sunshine On Leith) has nothing in common with The Dead Daisies, so has hot sunshine have very little in common with Scotland. Yet, today Edinburgh was basked in hot weather and very sweaty people.

It felt more like a gig in Spain as young Dan Byrne opened the show with his spectacular voice. The Scarlet Rebels were next (aptly named as blue Scottish people were rapidly turning scarlet in the heat) singing their anthemic songs that have seen them chart a top 10 album.

Once the venue filled up with all the late stragglers as the clock struck 9pm, ‘Rock and Roll’ by Led Zeppelin started blasting through the speakers as the band walked on stage and started playing ‘Long Way To Go’. Followed by monster track after monster track, the band were switched in and tuned up to Rock mode and there was no stopping them.

Tommy Clufetos was hitting the drums like a man possessed while looking like a younger Tommy Lee as the one time Motley frontman John Corabi commanded the stage all night. In the band intros, everyone had the opportunity to shine as The Daisies ran through some of the biggest tracks in Rock History including ‘Highway to Hell’ and ‘Living After Midnight’. David Lowy even had his turn in the spotlight as he took on the lead vocals for ‘Get A Haircut’ by George Thorogood and the Destroyers.

Although the crowd was loud and buoyant, it took a cover by a great Scottish band from the past to give everyone the biggest high of the night. ‘Midnight Moses’ by The Sensational Alex Harvey Band is now transformed into a Daisies classic, and the guys could have easily left the stage leaving the band and audience on a high. Instead they came back with more, including ‘Resurrection’ and ‘Helter Skelter’. Tonight was a blast! Now to blast the AC in the car on the way home! Newcastle is next.
