American hard rockers led by David Lowy are among the busiest bands of their kind on the scene. After a reunion with John Corabi (ex-MOTLEY CROE), they released a new album in quick succession, then an album of blues covers and immortalized their current concert form on the live album “Life Plus Five”. We can perceive this as an unacknowledged best of, which, following the example of the famous live albums from the seventies, shows the exceptional concert form of the band. The core of the album is the complete performance at the Stonedead festival from the summer of 2025. I am not surprised that the band decided to release a recording from this event – the performance is full of infectious positive energy, the band is on full throttle the whole time and John Corabi’s Tyler-like rasp is in excellent form. THE DEAD DAISIES skillfully grade the concert by combining their own compositions with covers of well-known gems of rock history (“Going Down”, “Helter Skelter”, “Fortunate Son”). The second, more of a bonus disc, brings a selection of songs that THE DEAD DAISIES played at other concerts on the tour. For example, it is a blues cover of “I Am Man” by Muddy Waters or the classic RAM JAM “Black Betty”.

I’m a bit surprised by the band, as the second CD was added mainly to motivate those fans who own the first live album “Live & Louder” from 2017, with which the first disc shares a playlist, to buy it. But that doesn’t change my positive impression of “Life Plus Five”. I’ve been following THE DEAD DAISIES closely since their unsurpassed peak “Make Some Noise” and I see the newly released Live as an ideal gateway to the band’s musical world for a rock fan who hasn’t heard anything from the followers of the AEROSMITH and GUNS N’ROSES legacy.
