BLUES BOOGIE
According to John Lee Hooker, he wrote ‘Boom Boom’ during an extended engagement at the Apex Bar in Detroit.
“I would never be on time (for a gig); I always would be late comin’ in. Sometimes they’d be on the bandstand playing by the time I got there. Willa, (the bartender) kept saying “Boom boom – you late again.” Every Night: “Boom, Boom – you late again. Then one night she said, boom boom I’m gonna shoot you down.” She gave me a song but she didn’t know it. I said: “Hmm, that’s a song!” I got it together, the lyrics, rehearsed it, and I played at the place, and people went wild.
“John Lee Hooker’s song “BOOM BOOM” was originally recorded in 1961 in Detroit. It was considered one of his greatest tunes as it actually crossed over and entered the pop charts. He recorded the tune with the help of the legendary Motown session band “The Funk Brothers,” and we couldn’t pass up the opportunity to put our spin on it!!!…Enjoy!!” – John Corabi
